For Fred Akinci, Team Leader - Customer Direct, it’s all about the customer experience. In the six years that this Arsenal F.C. fanatic has worked for FlexiGroup, he’s scored some big wins with his team.
“It’s been easy to thrive at FlexiGroup. This is a company where hard work is recognised and rewarded. So while I first started working at FlexiGroup in 2008 with the Customer Direct team as an Agent - I now run the department.
“In my first role, I was responsible for end-of-term customer retention and sales, and this is where I discovered that my people skills along with my listening skills were a natural fit for the sales role.
“In September 2011, I took on a 3 month secondment as a NSW Area Manager. In this position, I was on the road focusing on customer engagement. I was responsible for looking after some of the big Harvey Norman stores in Auburn, Blacktown and Mount Druitt. This was a great opportunity for me to develop good long term relationships with the top sales staff in Harvey Norman - which I continue to have today.
“When I returned to the Customer Direct team following the secondment, I was promoted to second-in-charge.
“One of the great things about a company like FlexiGroup is that there are so many career pathways available for all staff. So by 2013, when I was ready to branch out and learn new skills, I took the opportunity to join the Paymate team as a merchant category code specialist.
“While I loved this role, less than a year later, an opportunity to become the Team Leader of Customer Direct presented itself and I jumped at the chance. For me, it was like being given a penalty and scoring the winning goal.
“Apart from the ability to move to different roles within different teams, Flexi also supports you with study and training opportunities. In August 2014 I successfully completed a Front Line Management course which is not only benefiting me now in my current role, but setting me up to tackle greater responsibilities and win big in the future."
